Four American Tourists Among Six Killed in Athens Gas Explosion
Rescue teams in Athens recovered six bodies, including four U. S. tourists, on 27 September, after a gas-related explosion on 22 September collapsed a residential building in the Plaka district near the Acropolis.
Authorities said the blast was likely caused by a gas leak. Early reports on 22 September noted two women injured and six people missing, among them at least four tourists, as the building collapsed. Subsequent investigations confirmed the six fatalities, with four of the victims identified as American citizens.
