New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert dies at 45
Chad Gilbert, founding guitarist of New Found Glory, died peacefully in his sleep at age 45, with his wife and mother present, according to a statement from his band and family.
Chad Gilbert, a founding member and guitarist of pop-punk band New Found Glory, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday at the age of 45, his bandmates and wife said in a joint statement. The announcement noted that he was surrounded by his wife, Lisa Cimorelli, and his mother at the time of his passing.
The statement did not disclose a specific cause of death, but Gilbert had publicly discussed his battle with adrenal cancer, including a diagnosis of stage 4 adrenocortical carcinoma in 2021. He had continued to share updates from hospital visits on his Instagram account in recent months.
New Found Glory, formed in Florida in 1997, released its latest album “Listen Up!” in February and has been touring, with shows scheduled for October and November, including a performance at the Vans Warped Tour in Orlando.
"Chad’s guitar playing, songwriting, humor, and relentless drive helped shape New Found Glory for nearly three decades," the band wrote.
"He was a legendary musician, but his favorite accomplishment was being a husband and father," the statement added.
Tributes flowed from fellow musicians and fans on social media, including comments from members of Good Charlotte, Dashboard Confessional, The Offspring, Taking Back Sunday and The Ataris. Gilbert is survived by his wife, his daughter Lily, his mother Jackie and his brother Brian.
