Passenger missing after overboard incident on Carnival cruise ship

सारांश

A 56-year-old man is believed to have jumped overboard from the Carnival Panorama during its return voyage from Mexico, prompting a search by the U.S. Coast Guard and Mexican authorities.

A 56-year-old male passenger is reported missing after he went overboard from the Carnival Panorama on Saturday. The ship had departed Long Beach, California, on September 13 and was returning from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, when the incident occurred. Carnival officials said onboard cameras captured the man falling into the sea, though the reasons for the jump are not yet known.

The U.S. Coast Guard has deployed fixed-wing aircraft and is coordinating the search with the Mexican Navy and nearby commercial vessels. The search operation remains ongoing, according to a Coast Guard spokesperson.

A passenger on the ship, Michael Bedwell, told local media that crew members instructed guests to stay in their cabins while the crew searched for the individual.

"Carnival is providing support to the family who was traveling with the guest," the cruise line said in a statement.

The Coast Guard has not responded to a request for comment.
