Democrats Ahead of Republicans in House Preference, Quinnipiac Poll Shows
The latest Quinnipiac University poll found that 51% of registered voters prefer Democratic control of the House, compared with 39% who favor Republican control, while a majority of independents said they would vote to oppose President Donald Trump. Earlier polls throughout the past weeks have shown a sharp decline in Trump’s approval and a growing Democratic advantage. A Reuters/Ipsos poll reported Trump’s overall approval at 32% and only 17% approval of his handling of the cost of living. A CNN/SSRS poll later showed Republican support for his Iran strategy falling to 60% and overall approval at a historic low.
An NPR/PBS News/Marist poll indicated a 12-point Democratic lead on the economy and immigration, and a PBS-NPR-Marist poll found independents largely motivated to oppose Trump. The Guardian noted that a majority of Hispanic voters were dissatisfied with Trump’s economic and immigration policies and leaned toward Democratic congressional candidates. Additional surveys from NBC News, Rolling Stone and The Conversation highlighted that Trump’s net approval had dropped to record lows of minus 22. 4 to minus 23, further eroding Republican prospects for the midterms.
