Ukrainian drone strike forces Yaroslavl refinery shutdown
On 17 September, Russian officials said a Ukrainian drone strike had damaged the primary distillation unit at the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl, forcing a halt to crude processing and prompting firefighting efforts, according to Reuters. The strike came after a series of drone and missile attacks launched by Ukrainian forces on 15 September that hit the Rosneft refinery in Syzran, Samara Oblast, and an Ozon logistics centre in Taganrog, Rostov Oblast, causing fires and damage to nearby residential buildings, as reported by Ukrainian officials and regional authorities. The Daily Beast reported that the attacks also triggered power outages and further fires at the Yaroslavl plant.
