U.S. Military Announces Cislunar Readiness After Deploying On-Orbit Weapons
U. S. top military officials announced plans to ready forces for missions from the seabed to the cislunar region after confirming the deployment of on-orbit space-control weapons, while Chinese officials warned that such steps risk militarising outer space.
The deployment was first disclosed by Air Force Secretary Troy Meek, who told a conference that the Space Force has placed space-control weapons in orbit and outlined upcoming interceptor and satellite programs. The United States Space Force later affirmed that the weapons can conduct both defensive and offensive operations, citing growing threats from China and Russia. The announcement drew cautions from Chinese and Russian representatives about the potential for an arms race in space.
