Valve reports 19,000 Steam Frame reservations as waitlist expands
Valve reported on 18 September in Bellevue, Washington that about 19,000 reservations had been secured for its all-in-one Steam Frame VR headset, while a lottery-based waitlist continued to attract additional users. The company had earlier announced pricing of $1,059 for the base model and $1,299 for a 1TB version, and said the first batch would be allocated through a lottery. It then opened a 72-hour reservation period, entering participants into a random draw and indicating that reservation notifications would begin on 18 September.
Valve engineers later explained that the headset’s hardware remained unchanged and that the four-figure price reflected component costs, emphasizing its focus on native VR performance and deep integration with the Steam platform. UploadVR reported that after the waitlist emails were sent, listings for the headset appeared on secondary markets such as eBay at inflated prices, raising concerns about scalping and fraud.
