Israel's Operation Rising Lion Targets Iran's Nuclear Capabilities

In June 2025, Israel initiated Operation Rising Lion, a military campaign targeting Iran's nuclear program and military infrastructure. The operation commenced on June 13, 2025, with Israeli airstrikes on over 100 sites, including nuclear facilities in Tehran, Isfahan, and Natanz.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported that the operation aimed to neutralize the existential threat posed by Iran's nuclear weapons program and its ballistic missile capabilities.

In response, Iran launched a large-scale retaliatory attack, firing over 150 ballistic missiles and more than 100 drones targeting various locations across Israel.

The conflict resulted in significant casualties and damage on both sides. Iranian news agencies reported at least 224 deaths and over a thousand injuries, including civilians, due to Israeli strikes. In Israel, 28 civilians were killed, and 1,472 were injured from Iranian missile attacks.

The hostilities concluded on June 24, 2025, following a ceasefire agreement. In the aftermath, Iran established a new Supreme National Defense Council to oversee defense strategy and enhance military capabilities.

The international community expressed concern over the escalation, with the United Nations Secretary-General warning of a dangerous escalation and calling for restraint from all parties involved.
