Reform UK leader says £72 million crypto donations comply with law
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said on 14 September that the party's two £36 million donations comply with existing UK law, as Parliament debates a bill to cap overseas contributions at £100,000. Earlier in September, crypto entrepreneur Ben Delo announced a £36 million contribution to Reform UK.
The party later confirmed matching £36 million gifts from Delo and fellow cryptocurrency investor Christopher Harborne, bringing total donations to £72 million – the largest ever to a UK political party. Al Jazeera reported that each billionaire pledged roughly $49 million, raising the combined amount to about $97 million amid a police probe, and the BBC noted that the record gifts have sparked calls for tighter funding rules.
