macOS 27 Golden Gate adds new customization options and hidden terminal tweaks

Apple has released macOS 27 Golden Gate for Macs equipped with Apple Silicon, offering a range of stability improvements and new user-interface features. Among the changes is a slider in System Settings → Appearance that lets users adjust the intensity of the Liquid Glass visual effect introduced in the previous version.

The update also brings the iOS-style pull-to-refresh gesture to supported first-party apps such as Safari, Mail, Calendar, News and Podcasts, allowing a two-finger swipe on a trackpad to reload content. A new drawing tool is available in Apple Notes and Freeform, accessible via a pen icon in each app’s toolbar.

macOS 27 includes a standalone Siri app that supports typed queries when “Hey Siri” is disabled, enabling users to set timers, reminders and ask questions without voice activation. When Apple Intelligence is enabled, pressing Command-Shift-6 captures a screen region and invokes Visual Intelligence, offering image-based searches and contextual actions.

Several hidden features can be activated through Terminal commands. One command enables AirPlay to open in a resizable window instead of full-screen mode, while another disables the “Ask Siri” entry in the right-click context menu. Additional commands allow users to customize Safari’s tab-organization behavior, create AI-generated Safari extensions via the “Describe Extension” option, and enable keyboard navigation that cycles from the last menu item back to the first. Each command requires a system restart to take effect and can be reversed with a corresponding delete command.
