Saudi Aramco shifts 14 million barrels to Gulf after pipeline attack
Reuters reported that on 21 September Saudi Aramco loaded about 14 million barrels of crude onto seven supertankers in the Gulf, moving shipments that had previously been routed through the Red Sea after the East-West pipeline was knocked out by a drone attack. The 745-mile pipeline linking the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea was shut on 18 September after drones launched from Iraq struck pump stations, igniting fires, according to U. S. officials and Saudi authorities.
President Donald Trump later said Iran was probably behind the strike, and U. S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the line would be back in service within days. Satellite images published by the BBC showed extensive damage, and concerns that up to 4 % of global oil supply could be lost sparked a temporary rise in crude prices before they eased as Gulf shipments increased.
