Kimi Antonelli wins inaugural Spanish Grand Prix as teams assess upgrades
Kimi Antonelli secured his eighth win of the 2026 season at the Spanish Grand Prix, beating pole-sitter Lando Norris who dropped to fifth after a virtual safety-car pit stop. Norris had taken pole by 0. 011 seconds, while Lance Stroll started from the back of the grid following a penalty. Mercedes had dominated all three practice sessions, with George Russell and rookie Kimi Antonelli posting the fastest times.
Autosport reported that drivers noted front-left tyre graining that could affect race strategy. Motorsport. com said Racing Bulls rookie Arvid Lindblad crashed in second practice but escaped injury, and also noted that Lance Stroll was demoted to the back of the grid.
