Suspect in Sacramento Stalking Murder Dies After Highway Standoff
Authorities said the suspect in the September 8 killing of Shalini Thakur died from a self-inflicted gunshot during a police standoff on Highway 50 on 15 September. The 22-year-old man had shot the 38-year-old victim multiple times outside a Panera Bread parking lot after a months-long stalking campaign.
Investigators identified the shooter as Rohit, an undocumented Indian national who had been released from immigration detention and was subject to a restraining order. After the shooting, deputies pursued him, located him on Highway 50, and the confrontation ended when he turned the gun on himself.
