South Park to be retitled "South America" in satire of Trump’s naming campaign

Resumen

Creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker announced the animated series will be renamed "South America" for its 29th season, mocking President Donald Trump’s recent geographic renaming proposals and the compliance of tech companies.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker said the long-running Comedy Central series will be called "South America" for its upcoming 29th season. The change is intended as a satire of President Donald Trump’s recent attempts to rename geographic features, such as the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, and what the creators describe as the willingness of companies like Apple and Google to adopt those changes on their mapping services. > "Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA," the duo said in a statement, adding thanks to their parent company Paramount.

Trump has also floated other name changes, including renaming New Mexico to New America and the Strait of Hormuz to the "Trump Strait," proposals that have drawn criticism for their political motivations. The show has a history of lampooning the president, with recent episodes reportedly provoking a strong reaction from Trump and his administration.

Last year, a South Park episode portrayed Trump suing residents over protests and mocked media outlets and corporations perceived as yielding to presidential pressure, following a $1.5 billion streaming deal between the network’s parent company and the creators.
