Mid-50s attendee dies at Burning Man festival
A man in his mid-50s died after a medical emergency at the Burning Man event in Nevada, organizers said, while weather disruptions continued at the desert gathering.
A man in his mid-50s died at the Burning Man festival in Nevada after experiencing a medical emergency, the nonprofit Burning Man Project said in a statement on Thursday. The attendee was taken to the event’s on-site emergency care center, where he was pronounced dead. The organization did not disclose the nature of the medical condition.
The annual gathering, which draws about 70,000 participants to the Black Rock Desert, began on Aug. 30 and is scheduled to run through Sept. 7. Recent days have seen the festival’s entrance gates closed multiple times because of heavy rain and strong winds, though officials indicated the death was not linked to the weather.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the participant’s family, friends, and those affected by this loss,” the Burning Man Project statement read.
