Prime Video cancels Nicolas Cage-led Spider-Noir after one season
Amazon’s Prime Video and MGM+ have announced that the eight-episode series Spider-Noir, starring Nicolas Cage, will not be renewed for a second season despite strong critical reception and multiple Emmy nominations.
Amazon’s Prime Video and MGM+ confirmed that the series Spider-Noir, starring Nicolas Cage, will end after its inaugural eight-episode run that premiered in May. The show, which placed Cage in his first regular television role as 1930s private investigator Ben Reilly, earned a 92 percent critics score and a 90 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes and received 11 Emmy nominations, the most for any Prime Video series this year.
The series, described as a noir-styled take on a Marvel character, follows Reilly as he confronts his past after a personal tragedy in a city that hosts only one superhero. The cast also included Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson, with guest appearances by Lukas Haas and others.
Co-showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot oversaw production, while Harry Bradbeer directed and executive-produced the first two episodes. Executive producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Aditya Sood, Dan Shear, Amy Pascal, as well as Cage and Pavlina Hatoupis, were also attached to the project.
