U.S. Summer Box Office Sets Record $4.76 Billion in 2026
CNBC reported on September 9, 2026 that U. S. theaters generated a record $4. 76 billion in domestic ticket sales from May 1 through Labor Day, driven by blockbuster releases, an extra week of sales and higher premium-ticket prices.
Earlier reports had indicated the summer was on track to break previous records. Deadline cited Rentrak data suggesting the season could surpass the 2013 total, while Variety noted that the superhero film Spider-Man: Brand New Day became the fastest domestic release to reach $900 million and led the box office for a sixth straight weekend. USA Today highlighted five movies topping $1 billion globally, pushing the domestic total toward a $10 billion season, and Boxoffice Pro and other trackers confirmed overall attendance remained below pre-pandemic levels.
