Missouri Redistricting Fight Escalates as Courts Clash Over Congressional Map
The Missouri Supreme Court briefly held Secretary of State Denny Hoskins in contempt for directing the use of a 2025 congressional map, then cleared the contempt after he reverted to the 2022 map, according to KRCG on 13 September. Earlier, the U. S. Supreme Court issued an emergency order on 13 September blocking a newly drawn Republican congressional map and keeping the 2022 boundaries for the November midterm elections, Reuters reported.
The Court had previously denied a GOP request to implement the map, upholding the Missouri Supreme Court’s injunction that left the 2022 districts in place, NBC News said. The Missouri Supreme Court had originally blocked the GOP-drawn map for the 2026 election, ordered a statewide referendum on the map, and rebuked Secretary of State Denny Hoskins for defying its orders; the map, backed by President Trump, was barred by the court, AP News noted. Federal judges also issued temporary orders affecting the use of the 2025 map, CBS reported.
