Norway Seizes Russian Vessel Professor Molchanov in Svalbard Over Ukraine Compensation Claim
According to AP News, Norwegian authorities seized the Russian vessel Professor Molchanov in Svalbard on 2 September after a Nord-Troms and Senja district court ordered its detention to enforce a $4. 22 billion compensation award to Ukraine’s Naftogaz. The court order is part of Ukraine’s effort to collect the Hague arbitration award against Russia.
The award stems from a ruling that Russia must pay for seized Crimean assets, a claim Russia has refused to honor. Earlier reports said the detention prompted a diplomatic protest from Moscow, DW reported.
