House Rejects Johnson's Proposal to Cap Supreme Court at Nine Justices
Speaker Mike Johnson's proposal to amend the Constitution and fix the Supreme Court at nine justices was rejected by the U. S. House of Representatives in Washington, D. C.
The joint resolution failed to achieve the two-thirds majority required for a constitutional amendment. The vote fell 212-206, short of the 288 votes needed, as reported by CBS News. Earlier, Johnson had introduced and fast-tracked the amendment, but most House Democrats opposed it, continuing to discuss expanding the court.
