Wisconsin wildlife officials report surge to nearly 900 deer deaths from EHD
Wisconsin wildlife officials reported nearly 900 sightings of dead white-tailed deer in Washington, Waukesha and Ozaukee counties as the epizootic hemorrhagic disease outbreak intensified. The department said the virus is spread by biting midges.
Earlier, the department had recorded about 600 dead-deer reports by early August and confirmed cases in multiple counties. The surge prompted the agency to advise residents, including a West Bend couple who found four carcasses on their property, to report sightings and remove the animals.
