NFL rules Patriots' video-board distraction tactic legal under league policy

The NFL said the New England Patriots' use of a static All-22 image on the Gillette Stadium video board during opponents' field-goal attempts complies with league rules. Earlier reports had suggested the Patriots displayed extra yellow lines on the scoreboard to confuse opposing kickers, and that the video board showed a reversed view of the goalposts creating an optical illusion, according to a podcast host and NBC Sports. The New York Times later reported that the practice originated from a former Patriots kicker’s request for a different visual feed and that league officials found no rule breach.
