Rams receiver Puka Nacua talks rehab and fatherhood ahead of Australia game
On 11 September, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua told Netflix host Elle Duncan that his recent alcohol-rehabilitation program is shaping his approach to fatherhood as he prepares for the Rams’ season-opening game in Melbourne. He had earlier been accused by his ex-girlfriend of abuse and neglect, prompting the NFL to open a personal-conduct review and the Rams to delay a new contract, a Fox News report said. The league said the review is ongoing and that discipline remains possible, though he has not been suspended, according to the NFL. Analyst Tom Pelissero of Yahoo Sports said a suspension before the season start appears unlikely.
Head coach Sean McVay later said Nacua was expected to be eligible for the Melbourne game. Nacua himself said he understands the uncertainty surrounding possible discipline and is focusing on his play. He also told NBC Sports that a holistic rehabilitation program helped him confront personal stress, including alcohol use, as he faces a civil lawsuit and the final year of his rookie contract. ESPN reported that he believes alcohol helped him avoid stress and that rehab has put him on a better path while league discipline remains possible.
