Apple Watch Ultra 4 and Series 12 Expected to Launch with watchOS 27 Features

Summary

A leak of watchOS 27 code suggests new apps, enhanced strength-training tracking, an upgraded optical sensor and up to 128 GB storage for the upcoming Apple Watch Ultra 4 and Series 12.

Apple is set to unveil its latest Apple Watch Ultra 4 and Series 12 models, and a recent leak of watchOS 27 code points to several new software features. The code reveals a new "Readiness" app positioned next to the Workout app on the default Home screen, hinting at health-monitoring functions similar to those offered by third-party wearables.

The upcoming version of the Workout app appears to support more detailed strength-training logs, allowing users to record sets, repetitions, weight, equipment, body side and duration for each exercise.

In addition, the code suggests an upgraded optical-sensing system, which aligns with rumors of hardware changes in the new watches. Evidence also indicates that the next-generation S-class chip may provide up to 128 GB of storage.

While some of these features may be tied to the new hardware, the Readiness app could be rolled out to older watch models through the watchOS 27 update.

"The watchOS 27 launcher includes it in its default Home Screen layout ordering immediately after the Workout app," the leak notes.

"The new implementation can describe individual sets and store repetition counts, weight, equipment, body side, and duration for each set," the source adds.
