Hollywood and Jewish Artists Sign Letters Amid Ruffalo Gaza Dispute
The Hollywood Reporter said that on 10 September more than 5,000 entertainment, political and academic leaders signed an open letter condemning the description of Israel's Gaza response as genocide, while actor Mark Ruffalo issued a counterstatement. Earlier, The Guardian reported that over 170 Jewish artists and scholars had signed a letter supporting Ruffalo and rejecting antisemitism accusations related to his criticism of a Paramount-Skydance merger. The Los Angeles Times noted a similar open letter signed by more than 150 Jewish creators after Paramount labeled Ruffalo's remarks about Oracle's role in the Israel-Gaza conflict as antisemitic, linking the dispute to the stalled Paramount-Warner Bros.
Discovery merger. Page Six said George Clooney and other entertainers defended Ruffalo's free-speech rights following condemnation from Jewish organizations. Variety quoted Fauda co-creator Avi Issacharoff calling Ruffalo ignorant for labeling the conflict genocide, and The Hollywood Reporter added that Issacharoff disputed the genocide claim, citing aid deliveries and birth statistics.
