Vance warns Michigan Senate candidate to drop wife references
Vice President JD Vance told Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed to refrain from mentioning his wife, Usha Vance, during a campaign event in Sterling Heights, Michigan, according to Salon. The comment prompted a response from El-Sayed on social media. Earlier in the campaign, Vance had labeled El-Sayed “evil” at a MAGA Inc. rally, NBC reported.
He later urged the Democrat to focus on policy rather than personal attacks, accusing him of undermining auto-industry workers, Fox News said. In turn, El-Sayed called Vance hypocritical for the personal attacks, Forbes noted. BBC described the exchange as part of a heated primary, with El-Sayed also blaming the Trump administration for harmful policies. The vice president’s mother, Beverly Vance Aikins, later called El-Sayed an “idiot” and said she might physically confront him, the New York Post reported, a claim echoed by The Detroit News.
