Remnants of Edouard Cause Flooding and School Closures Across Texas
The Associated Press reported that dozens of people were rescued as the remnants of former Tropical Storm Edouard stalled over eastern Texas on September 3, bringing heavy rain that approached two feet in some areas, causing flooding and prompting school closures. The system had first affected the Houston region on September 1, when the National Hurricane Center noted the weakening storm moving west-northwest across northeast Texas and forecasting 2-4 inches of rain.
Several school districts in the Houston area, including Crosby, Galena Park, Dayton, Huffman and others, cancelled classes that day, and additional districts such as Conroe and Willis closed schools on September 2. The storm later made landfall near the Texas-Louisiana border, generating rain warnings, power outages for tens of thousands and flash-flood emergencies across the state.
