LSU President Confirms Exclusion of Former NFL Players from 2026 Roster
LSU President Wade Rousse wrote to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey on September 9, confirming that former NFL players Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris will not be listed on LSU’s football roster for the 2026 season, and noting that the issue had been resolved. The decision follows a months-long dispute that began in August when a Louisiana judge issued a preliminary injunction allowing LSU to add the ex-NFL athletes. The SEC responded by filing a federal lawsuit against the university and head coach Lane Kiffin and by weighing sanctions ranging from fines to possible expulsion from the conference.
Earlier, the conference announced it would contest a temporary restraining order that barred it from penalizing member schools for fielding former professionals, and SEC officials debated penalties such as boycotts, probation or expulsion. Georgia’s attorney general also sent a letter urging the SEC to take strong action against LSU.
