Met Museum weighs new gala plans after Galliano exhibit cancellation
The Metropolitan Museum of Art said on September 3 that it is exploring several options for the 2027 Met Gala after the John Galliano "Horizons" exhibition was cancelled, including repurposing existing plans, using the Costume Institute’s permanent collection, or possibly canceling the gala altogether, Page Six reported. Earlier, on August 31 the museum announced it was cancelling the solo Galliano exhibition after discussions with the designer and concerns raised by Jewish groups, AP News reported. Trustees had also considered moving the gala date because the original theme conflicted with Holocaust Remembrance Day and faced donor opposition, Deadline noted.
On August 28 Galliano announced his withdrawal from the gala and Vogue chief Anna Wintour was seen at the US Open, Page Six said. After his withdrawal, criticism grew and calls intensified for Wintour to reduce her influence, Page Six added.
