North Carolina petting zoo rabies case prompts vaccination warnings for parents
A mother in Lexington, North Carolina, said health officials warned her that baby goats from a traveling petting zoo had tested positive for rabies, prompting her to urge other parents to seek vaccination. Earlier in August, the Davidson County Health Department confirmed that four baby goats were rabies-positive, issued a public warning and opened a call center for risk assessments. Officials also quarantined the animals and advised anyone who had handled them between late July and late August to obtain post-exposure treatment, affecting nearly 300 visitors.
