Insiders say Tony Romo unlikely to return to CBS after OWI plea
Sports business insiders said former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS analyst Tony Romo is unlikely to return to CBS, with negotiations over his $72 million contract under way. NBC Sports reported that Romo entered a no-contest plea to an operating-while-intoxicated charge in Wisconsin and said he would resume his broadcasting duties, while CBS declined to comment. AP News said he was later charged with three additional citations related to the July 23 arrest and that CBS had not set a timeline for his return. USA Today noted that the plea resulted in a six-month driver’s license suspension, fines and mandatory treatment, with other charges dismissed.
A report from nypost. com said the plea includes a mandatory jail term if Romo is convicted of another OWI within ten years. The New York Post highlighted former quarterback Ryan Leaf’s criticism of Romo for attributing the incident to back surgery.
