Russian air force lieutenant colonel killed in St. Petersburg car bomb
The Daily Beast reported on 30 August that a lieutenant colonel of Russia’s air force was killed by an explosive device attached to his vehicle in the Shushary district of St. Petersburg, adding the attack to a recent string of bombings targeting senior Russian officers. The Moscow Times said the officer’s car caught fire on 27 August in Shushary and that his wife was taken to hospital for treatment.
DW reported that the vehicle detonated in the Pushkinsky district and that no group had claimed responsibility. The Moscow Times later noted that the blast occurred near a supermarket and cited claims of Ukrainian involvement. Meduza identified a 24-year-old Russian woman as a suspect, saying she fled the country before she could be detained.
