U.S. Treasury sanctions Turkey's Golden Global Bank over IRGC ties
The U. S. Treasury sanctioned Turkey's Golden Global Bank and two subsidiaries on September 5, accusing the institutions of moving funds for Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, while the bank rejected the claims and announced it would seek legal recourse.
The sanctions were the latest step in the Treasury's Operation Economic Outcast, launched on August 26 to cut off revenue streams for the IRGC and its allies. Earlier in the campaign, the United States expanded secondary sanctions on Iran's trade network, Tehran warned of possible retaliation, and President Trump said the pressure had deepened after six months. The Treasury also targeted the UAE branches of Egypt's Banque Misr and signaled further actions, including freezing offshore assets linked to the IRGC.
