Rescuers Save Chinese Worker and Woman After Nepal Floods
AP News reported that rescue teams in Nepal saved a Chinese hydropower worker and a woman from a flooded tunnel and a damaged house ten days after the flash floods devastated the border region. The operation, carried out by the Nepalese army and Chinese emergency crews, marked the first confirmed survivor extraction from the Trishuli 3A hydropower tunnel. The disaster, triggered by a glacial collapse on the Nepal-China border in August, has killed more than 1,000 people and left thousands missing, including hundreds of foreign tourists.
Authorities have focused rescue efforts on locating workers trapped in inundated hydropower tunnels, with earlier missions retrieving two men and dozens of other victims. The floods have also displaced communities, strained relief camps, and prompted international aid, as the death toll continues to rise and the search for survivors proceeds.
