Jelly Roll Faces Fan Backlash After Trump Jokes on Jimmy Kimmel Live
Country singer Jelly Roll drew a warning of possible fan backlash after his jokes about President Donald Trump on Jimmy Kimmel Live! , with fellow country artist John Rich saying the singer could lose a sizable portion of his audience, according to The Daily Beast. Earlier, Jelly Roll filled in as guest host on the show and mocked Trump’s recent weight gain, IndyCar appearance and poll numbers, as reported by TV Insider and Rolling Stone. He later defended the jokes, stating that satire is part of a host’s role, per HuffPost. During the monologue he also ridiculed a Fox News segment that linked his weight loss to Ozempic and “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” according to TheWrap.
In his final appearance he clarified his centrist political views, discussed the backlash over the Trump jokes and announced plans to vote in the November midterms, USA Today reported. A Newsmax host subsequently deleted all Jelly Roll songs from his phone in response to the jokes, Yahoo said. Fox News panelists later criticized the jokes on their weekend show, HuffPost noted. Comedian David Spade later commented that the jokes turned Trump’s own rhetoric back on him, TheWrap reported.
