Haitian priest calls for international aid after deadly Kenscoff gang attack
On 31 August, a priest from the village of Kenscoff urged the international community to provide aid after a gang assault that left at least 47 people dead and more than 50 kidnapped, The Pillar reported. The attack began on 23 August when a coalition of gangs calling itself Viv Ansanm set fire to homes in the hillside community near Port-au-Prince, AP News said.
The United Nations later confirmed the death toll of 47 and the kidnapping of over 50 residents, and UN officials condemned the violence. UNICEF subsequently announced that six children and seven women had been released from captivity.
