China launches record 4.3 million-vehicle recall over door-handle issue
China’s automotive safety agency announced a record recall of almost 4. 3 million vehicles from nine manufacturers, including Tesla, after it found that emergency door-release handles can be difficult to locate or operate. The agency said the fix will be delivered through over-the-air updates and supplemental physical warning stickers.
Earlier, Chinese regulators had ordered the recall of about 3 million Tesla cars – Model 3, Y, S and X – because the retractable electric door handles could fail after a severe crash. Those recalls required software updates for window operation and driver-monitoring systems and were carried out via over-the-air updates, later expanding to include other automakers.
