Massachusetts jury to resume deliberations in Lindsay Clancy trial on 1 September
According to WCVB, a Massachusetts jury resumed deliberations on 1 September in the trial of former labor-and-delivery nurse Lindsay Clancy after failing to reach a unanimous verdict the previous day. Judge William Sullivan urged jurors to keep trying to reach a decision. The deadlock followed three days of deliberation in which jurors could not agree on whether Clancy should be found guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree murder or involuntary manslaughter, and the judge warned that a mistrial could result.
The case, which began in August, saw the defense present a psychiatrist who said Clancy suffered postpartum psychosis and heard commanding voices, while prosecutors called their own experts to argue she acted with intent. Closing arguments were scheduled for after testimony ended.
