Seattle is elevating top prospect Kade Anderson to the major-league roster for his first start against the Chicago Cubs, preserving his rookie eligibility for next season.

Seattle announced that left-handed pitcher Kade Anderson will make his major-league debut on Saturday, Aug. 22, when the Mariners face the Chicago Cubs. The promotion follows a road trip in which Seattle struggled against three high-scoring opponents, prompting the club to add the highly regarded prospect to its rotation.

Anderson posted a 1.06 ERA, 1.78 FIP and 2.67 DRA in Double-A Arkansas, compiling 135 strikeouts and 13 walks over 93.1 innings. He has been praised for his command and a repertoire that includes a fastball, mid-80s slider, curveball and changeup.

Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said the team does not plan to use Anderson in relief, emphasizing that his performance merits a spot in the starting rotation. The timing of the call-up also aligns with the service-time deadline, allowing Anderson to retain rookie status through the 2027 season.

Seattle has limited Anderson’s innings in the minors, typically removing him after two trips through the lineup, but his efficiency has remained strong even in shortened outings.
