Tropical Storm Moke Brings Heavy Rain and Flood Threat to Hawaii's Big Island
The state weather spokesperson said on August 24 that tropical storm Moke brought several inches of rain to Hawaii's Big Island, prompting a flood watch and raising the risk of flash flooding and landslides. The system was first identified as Tropical Depression Two-C on August 20 about 900 miles east-southeast of Hilo, with forecasts of up to 15 inches of rain and hazardous surf. It later intensified into Tropical Storm Moke, with meteorologists and the National Hurricane Center projecting 5-10 inches of rain and strong winds, arriving just days after Hurricane Lola's damage and renewing concerns about flooding and mudslides.
