Michigan Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed Cuts Ties with Streamer Hasan Piker
Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan said his campaign would no longer be associated with Twitch streamer Hasan Piker after the streamer suggested that support for Israel could lead to violence against American Jews, a statement released on August 24. Earlier in the campaign, Republican candidate Mike Rogers created a "Democrats for Mike Rogers" outreach group aimed at voters dissatisfied with El-Sayed, and he later targeted Jewish and moderate Democratic voters by criticizing El-Sayed’s comments on Israel and his link to Piker. July polls showed El-Sayed holding a narrow lead over Rogers, and the August 20 primary confirmed his nomination despite a nine-to-one spending disadvantage.
