Progressive upset in Florida primary and Alaska Senate lead
PBS reported that progressive state Rep. Angie Nixon defeated better-funded moderate Alex Vindman in the Florida Democratic Senate primary, while former Alaska congresswoman Mary Peltola topped the state’s nonpartisan Senate primary. The victories set up November contests against incumbent Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan in Alaska and Republican Sen.
Ashley Moody in Florida. NBC News had earlier announced Nixon’s win over Vindman and noted that she will face Republican Sen. Ashley Moody in the general election. The Associated Press similarly described Nixon as a democratic socialist who overcame the moderate challenger, positioning her for a long-shot race against Moody.
