UK drones used in Ukraine strikes prompt Russian warning, NATO readies for possible Iranian retaliation and US seeks probe of Ukrainian drones in Libya

British-made drones employed by Ukraine in attacks on Russian targets have led Moscow to warn London of consequences, while NATO bolsters defenses against potential Iranian strikes in Europe and the United States calls for an investigation into Ukrainian drones used in a Libyan oil facility attack.

British-made drones that have been supplied to Ukraine were used in recent strikes on logistics hubs, oil refineries and warehouses inside Russia, prompting the Russian embassy in London to warn that the United Kingdom is "deliberately opting for an escalation of the Ukraine crisis" and that "the deeper its involvement in the conflict... the higher the price it will pay". Prime Minister Andy Burnham reiterated Britain’s support for Kyiv, telling BBC reporters, "We are not fair-weather friends, we will be there in Ukraine's hour of need and that won't change," and said the UK will continue providing equipment to Ukraine.

At the same time, NATO and the United States have increased security measures in southeastern Europe amid concerns that Iran could target U.S. facilities on the continent. Bulgaria has reinforced defenses at the Bezmer Air Base, a refueling point for American aircraft, and a NATO official said the alliance is prepared to "address any threat and will always do what is necessary to defend all Allies". Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned his Bulgarian counterpart that any party involved in a military attack against Iran would have to accept responsibility for the consequences.

In North Africa, a major attack on Libya’s Al-Zawiya oil complex was attributed to Ukrainian-made drones, according to local reports. The strike destroyed a power station and ignited a fire in a gasoline tank holding 13 million litres, prompting the United States to request a full investigation. Libyan officials said the drones were likely supplied to forces loyal to the Government of National Unity, raising concerns about advanced weaponry in the hands of unregulated groups.
