Seahawks’ preseason snap counts highlight roster competition ahead of next game

Analysis of the Seattle Seahawks’ preseason loss to the Dallas Cowboys shows which players received the most snaps and how the coaching staff is evaluating roster candidates.

Seattle fell 17-7 to Dallas in a preseason matchup that featured numerous penalties and miscommunications, a performance the coaching staff hopes to improve as the team evaluates backup and fringe players. With the official NFL game book now available, analysts examined snap counts to identify which players are likely to make the 53-man roster.

Wide receiver Montorie Foster led the Seahawks with 41 offensive snaps and scored the team’s only touchdown, but he did not appear on special-teams units, a factor that could affect his roster chances. Running backs Cody White, Ricky White III and Emmanuel Henderson Jr. recorded a few special-teams reps, underscoring the importance of contributions on kick and punt coverage for depth players.

Second-year guard Bryce Cabeldue did not see any offensive snaps in the first half, while Mason Richman received significant playing time at multiple interior line positions, suggesting Richman may have an advantage for a backup role.

Quarterback Tory Horton, who has not played since November, was not used in the game despite expectations that he might receive limited reps, indicating the coaching staff may be protecting him during his recovery.

On defense, rookie safety A.J. Finley shared the majority of safety snaps with second-round pick Bud Clark, and recorded an interception in a recent practice. Fellow safety Rodney Thomas II did not see defensive snaps until the third quarter. Edge-rusher rotation in the first half featured Connor O’Toole, Jared Ivey and Mike Morris, while Jalan Gaines saw limited early action.

Cornerbacks Andre Fuller and Michael Dansby did not participate on special teams or defense until the second half, with veterans Shemar Jean-Charles, Nehemiah Pritchett and Noah Igbinoghene handling most early assignments. Their limited exposure may signal a tougher path to making the final roster.

The Seahawks will travel to Nashville for a joint practice and a second preseason game against the Tennessee Titans as the roster evaluation process continues.
