White House adopts space policy aiming for 1,000 launches by 2030
The White House issued a presidential memorandum on a new U. S. space transportation policy that targets more than 1,000 rocket launches and re-entries per year by 2030, and calls for additional federal spaceports, greater range transparency and faster launch capability to support a projected surge in commercial and military activity. The policy is intended to keep the United States at the forefront of both civilian and defense space operations.
The memorandum builds on a Federal Aviation Administration forecast that commercial launches could reach 4,300 over the next decade, driven by NASA’s Artemis program and growing satellite constellations. Satellite operators warned that the upcoming phase-out of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rockets could create a launch-slot shortage, and the administration had earlier set the 1,000-launch goal for 2030. These measures reflect expectations of rising demand for satellite constellations and lunar missions.
