Von Miller seeks jersey number after signing with Cowboys
Veteran linebacker Von Miller, who signed a one-year contract with Dallas, said he prefers to wear No. 40 but the number is currently assigned to fullback Hunter Luepke.
Veteran linebacker Von Miller signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys and is currently without an assigned jersey number. Miller, who wore No. 40 at Texas A&M and with the Rams and Bills, and No. 58 during his nine seasons in Denver, said he would like to return to No. 40, but the number is presently worn by fullback Hunter Luepke.
When asked about the possibility of wearing No. 94, the number formerly worn by former Cowboys star DeMarcus Ware, Miller declined, stating, "Nah, 94, that’s D-Ware. That’s D-Ware."
Miller acknowledged the situation, noting that his previous numbers—including No. 24 with Washington—are already taken. He said he has made offers to Luepke to free the number, joking that a "lifetime supply of chicken" might persuade him. Miller emphasized that his focus remains on winning games and a Super Bowl, adding that the jersey number is a secondary concern.
During the Cowboys' joint practice with the New Orleans Saints, Miller was seen wearing No. 40 on his uniform.
