Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he remains open to major trade despite signing Von Miller

Summary

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reiterated his willingness to pursue a significant trade, even after adding pass rusher Von Miller, saying the team would act if a beneficial opportunity arises.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters that the club would still consider a major trade, including the possible loss of future draft picks, if a suitable opportunity presented itself. He made the comments after the team signed former Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, noting that the addition did not change his overall approach.

"Yes, if we had an opportunity, I would be," Jones said on the team’s official website. He added that his optimism about the squad’s chances had grown since the start of training camp and that he would be willing to "take a little of the future and put it on this team" if it helped the Cowboys win.

The Cowboys have overhauled their defense this offseason, bringing in new coordinator Christian Parker and players such as Rashan Gary, Dee Winters, Jalen Thompson, Cobie Durant, Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark and others, while also drafting Caleb Downs and Malachi Lawrence. The moves have been described as solid on paper, and Miller’s signing adds another pass-rushing option.

"I'm even more excited today than I was when we started camp that our team is going to be one that if we can have some things go right for us, avoid some injury, we could really be something that we all want to be, and that's a team that's competing for the big game," Jones said.

Jones indicated that if a trade candidate emerged before the deadline, especially after an injury, the organization would act to strengthen the roster, aiming to move beyond recent playoff disappointments.
