Netanyahu and Kushner agree U.S. general to oversee Hamas weapons handover
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U. S. envoy Jared Kushner said on 16 August that a U. S. military general would oversee the transfer of Hamas weapons in Gaza as part of a demilitarisation plan, with reconstruction delayed until disarmament is complete.
Earlier, Kushner and senior members of the Trump-appointed Board of Peace travelled to Israel and Egypt to discuss implementation of the U. S. -brokered cease-fire roadmap. Eight Muslim-nation foreign ministers condemned Israel’s rejection of the 15-point Trump-backed proposal, and after talks with Hamas leaders in Egypt Kushner held hours-long meetings with Netanyahu to push the same cease-fire plan forward.
