Vikings' joint practice with Ravens highlights defensive standouts and quarterback struggles
During a joint practice with the Baltimore Ravens, Minnesota Vikings defensive players impressed while quarterbacks Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy threw multiple interceptions.
Minnesota held its final training-camp sessions in a joint practice with the Baltimore Ravens, a drill that will influence roster decisions ahead of the preseason game on Saturday. Defensive end Dallas Turner, a recent addition after the trade of Jonathan Greenard, recorded a sack and applied consistent pressure on Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, suggesting he is ready for a starting role. Defensive lineman Elijah Williams, who earned a roster spot last season, also performed well, registering tackles for loss and showing versatility in both first-team and second-team reps.
Quarterbacks struggled during the session; both Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy threw interceptions, though Murray later connected with wide receiver Justin Jefferson on a deep route. Coaches expect improvement as the quarterbacks adjust to the new practice environment.
"Turner is explosive and holding up well at the point of attack," a Vikings coach said after the drill. "Williams was solid, even driving the offensive lineman backward a few yards," another staff member noted.
The practice served as a litmus test for players vying for spots on the 53-man roster as the Vikings approach the final days of camp.
