Michigan rejects Trump’s vaccine order, maintains standard schedule
Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services announced on August 20 that it will continue to follow the American Academy of Pediatrics’ childhood-vaccination schedule, rejecting President Donald Trump’s recent executive order that called for the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine to be administered in three separate shots. The order, signed on August 10, directed the health department to develop single-disease vaccines and cut the list of recommended childhood immunizations from 18 to 11.
Pediatric societies, insurers and legal experts had warned that the proposal lacked scientific support and could increase costs and missed appointments. Earlier reports also noted that vaccine manufacturers said the split would be logistically difficult and unlikely to be implemented.
